Old Friends

I went to the David Crowder and Phil Wickham concert last night at the House of Blues downtown. Whenever I am at this events, surrounded by a mass of strangers, I become much more aware of the value of personal space. It was standing room only, and it was packed. I have never been so close to strangers in all my life. I could literally smell the shampoo of the guy in front of me. Lucky for me, he smelled clean!

Before the concert started I ran into an old friend of mine. He was someone that I grew up going to church with and school, and most of my memories as a high school student involve him. He was one of my most loyal friends, and one that supported me and my search for Christ. There were times when I felt like the only Christian in my 2500 person high school, but then I'd think of Dave, and know that I wasn't alone. I also worked at good ole Dairy Queen with Dave. I'd clean the topping rail to have an absolute perfect shine, and then he and Will would come by and intentionally drip strawberries on the counter!! On a more serious note, Dave become an almost adopted member of our family. We literally hung out everyday for years (eventually he started dating my sister so then he came over to see her instead of me!) When Erik broke up with me once, he and Kelly came by with balloons and ice cream and sat there to listen to me cry (and scream!) . Seeing him again brought me back to my high school and college years and how formational they were to my maturity in Christ. I know that Dave contributed largely to the fact that I kept on the straight and narrow during those times.

Dave is one of those people that I may not see for years, but when I do, I feel like I'm hanging out with the older brother I never had.

All in all, it was a great night of music, but the highlight of my night was seeing an old pal.

I remember that time when we came over with a balloon and ice cream, and I think we also brought over some twizzlers. Some of my fondest memories my senior year of high school were at the Elton home! Just not the time I broke Rosie's nutcracker!! Ha! :)
