P and K,

I have been going through a very difficult time in ministry these past few weeks. It seems like what seeds we have planted and watered, are not growing. It is very sad to see students that we love and have invested in chase the world instead of the God who created them. I learned early on in ministry that there is nothing that I can do to manage a student's relationship with God. I am simply called to create an atmosphere where they can meet Him, but the choice to engage is theirs. For a control freak like myself, that's hard to do.

When you see no fruit, it is difficult to keep on keeping on. When you see your sheep waning it is discouraging. But you have to keep a Jesus perspective. When in the ministry, you have to love as Jesus loved, and have patience with others as God has had with you. That does not mean that frustration isn't present. Jesus himself sits on a overlying mountain and cries over Jerusalem.

Your dad and I are called to ministry, and before we even welcomed the both of you in to our lives we decided that corporately our family would serve that purpose. When you begin to venture on your own individual callings in life, we will support you. But for now, the four of us are in this together. I know the two of you have already made sacrifices for ministry, and you have also enjoyed the blessings of serving people. My prayer is that you see the fullness of the ministry: the good, the bad, the ugly, and the very beautiful.
