Why Wedneday night church is so hard...from a mom's point of view.

Wednesday nights are my absolute favorite time of the week. I love being with the students during worship, and of course, I love hearing my intellectual, humorous, relevant, and hottie of a husband speak. I look forward to the response time, where we can choose to worship God with our mouths and actions, or where we can quiet our selves and just be in His presence. Again, I love Wednesday nights.

I would love them even more if they took place at another time. Maybe 10 am or so. After a day of work and mothering, I want to be relaxing and gearing up for bed by 6:15 p.m. Instead, I am trying to get two tired kids out the door for the beginning of our evening activities.

I know there are many women in America who are in the same boat as me, and have to do all of this on their own...with no hubby (a.k.a. "backup") to help. Being consistent on a Wednesday night is an act of sacrifice on my part. It requires purposeful effort. There are plenty of other areas of my life that could use those few hours, but I have dedicated those to the Lord and to the students that I love. I am pretty sure that each week I could give a list of multiple excuses to not go, and they would be perfectly justifiable. (I have headache, I am tired, I am busy, my kids are tired, my laundry isn't done, I have to work at 7am the next day, I have bills to pay, I have to wash my hair,American Idol is on, Lost is on, etc etc)But, that is where the motto of "it's not about me" comes in. I want to put myself in a place to hear God's word, fellowship with other believers, and give to those around me. I believe that God blesses my sacrifice and my commitment.

I don't always WANT to go, but I am ALWAYS glad I went. God never disappoints.

Do you have any good sitters in your area? Maybe two wednesdays out of the month you could hire a sitter who can put the boys to bed. It sure would take some stress off you! But I admire your stregnth!

Sometimes our kids just need to see that honoring God takes sacrifice and like you said it's not about us anyway. Even though its a struggle now there is always reward in the end when we are faithful to God and to our ministries.
On another note Spring is coming and when the days are growing longer and when the sun is out more and you don't have to bundle up it will be easier to go and the kids won't be as cranky either!

I completly agree! I have to be at the church ever Wed. by 5 pm to get my music together for band practice at 5:30-6:30. From 6:30-7:00 the boys eat there at the church and half the time they don't like it and it's real challenge to get them to eat. The time from 6:30-7 is very stressful b/c I'm trying to take care of them and get them in their class and get back in the youth room ready to lead worship. And if practice goes over I have to find someone to take them to the eating area to eat. So, by the time they're in their class I can breathe a little. It's so funny that you wrote this today b/c last night I was very stressed b/c Josh wasn't behaving. It'd be nice to have someone take care of them for the night so I could just focus on the teens and what I need to do, but who's going to do that?

I find that usually when you don't want to go, but you go anyway, is when amazing things can happen.
and I agree, dragging the kids out for Wednesday night church (especially in the winter) is not always fun! (good thing for DVR for good shows too :)
