We entertain people on a regular basis; it's the nature of what we do. Most people who come to our house will get one of three meals: stuffed peppers, enchiladas, or chicken broccoli casserole. Those dishes require time and effort, but are worth it because I feel like they put my best domestic foot forward (which isn't saying much). I basically make these meals because I want to give our guests a good impression.
Then there are our two couples who I am comfortable enough in our friendship to just serve pizza. The Shultzs and the Kemps. I can ordered pizza and not worry that they are going to think less of me and of my homemaking skills.
We had one of the couples over last night. I just ordered pizza. That's it, and that's enough for them. Jamie and Tasha Kemp (missionaries to Indonesia) visited us last night. The great thing about them is that grew up at the same home church that Erik and I grew up at, so we have endless stories and jokes that we share. They are also in ministry, which is a meaningful bond. Last night I laughed so much my side was aching. Jamie and Tasha are lifelong friends, and they are okay if we just serve pizza.
Everyone needs pizza friends. It's not stressful to have them over, it doesn't require work, and it makes for an evening of constant laughter.

"true" friends wouldn't care what you served or what your house looked like. But it is funny you wrote about it because I was just thinking why I do the things I do. Like when I clean my house like a madwoman or try to cook something fancy for my guests. I don't do it because I want to, I do it because I am worried what they will think of me as a wife/housewife. You are totally right and it sounds like you found the perfect pizza friends!
Yes, I LOVE "pizza" friends!
Good for you!!! Sorry if we talked too long yesterday for you to cook anything!!!
That is great..... I hate feeling stressed about people coming over....
