Please settle this for us...

Erik and I have been married for almost 8 years, and I just found out a few weeks ago that he brushes his teeth with warm water. I brush my teeth with cold water. Who is right? What do you do? How is this difference of opinion going to influence us as we teach our children about dental hygiene?

On a separate and sad note, today we gave Parker a choice of which movie he wanted to see with Daddy. He chose Speedracer over Indiana Jones. That breaks my heart. One day I hope to convince him of the greatness of Dr. Jones.

LOL.
Katie is weird like that too. jk
She uses warm water and I use cold.
I don't know who is correct...probably just preference.
When teaching kids, it should be cold. Why? Because I am right.
Actually, I think you should teach with cold simply because what happens if they use hot instead of warm? They may get burned.

When I was a kid I used cold water... I bet our parents taught us that because they don't want to pay for the energy hot water heater uses... kids tend to take a long time and leave the water running.
I now have to use luke warm water because I have sensitive teeth :(
Most importantly teach them to floss... not to scrub too hard.
Many years later...ouch!

You are not going to believe this. Noah and I have this argument ALL THE TIME. He uses hot and I use cold. And every night we brush our teeth he says.."Why the cold water! Hot water kills the germs!" I say it what I have done my whole life so I will keep doing it. Warm water feels funny in my mouth. Cold makes me feel refreshed :)

I always use HOT water, it makes the toothbrush bristles softer and seems to get my mouth cleaner. My dentist said to use HOT water. There's my take.

I've been married for 27 years and never once have discussed whether we use warm or cold water to brush our teeth. Weird. Also, Parker needs to have the movie reviews read to him before he chooses movies.lol Speedracer only got 1 star.

That is so funny b/c I brush with cold water and Ronnie brushes with warm water!! I think my boys like cold water though! I don't like warm water in my mouth I guess! I guess we should ask our dentist which is better???

I brush with cold and Joel brushes with warm...... warm seems gross to me.

everyone's responses here bother me because there's a glaring problem here. it seems to me that many responders are running water over their brush before they use it.

that's just wrong...and weird.

to clarify, i rinse my brush with warm water. why? because i have a hot water heater and i might as well use it.

the "hot vs. cold" issue arises when i try to rinse my toothbrush off (after I'm done) and my hand freezes because the water is so cold.

i'll never understand why you'd rinse your toothbrush before you start. yuck.

Eric, we are not rinsing our toothbrushes off before we brush. We are merely wetting the brush, with the toothpaste on it because the toothbrush is hard after it has dried from you last brushing. It can hurt your gums if you brush with a stiff, hard toothbrush.

I have never in my life heard of someone using warm water to brush their teeth. My vote is for cold water...less energy usage...better for the environment!
