Pineapples and Onions

I was at the grocery store the other day, and for the first time in my life, I bought a pineapple. It looked so tasty and it seemed to capture the essence of a warm day. After I arrived home, I couldn't wait to eat some of this fresh, juicy, fruit. One problem...I had no idea how to prepare a pineapple. Do you cut? Do you carve? Do you slice? I thought I'd start by trying to peel of the prickly skin. Unfortunately I was cutting off the meat of the fruit as well. About twenty minutes later, my cutting board was filled with pieces of shredded pineapple.

The shredded pineapple was extremely refreshing, although the presentation was hideous. I mixed in a few fresh strawberries to pretty it up a bit, and all in all, I think I'll wait to buy another pineapple until I go to cutting school.

I need to learn how to cut an onion too...I mutilate those as well.

Just wait till you try to take apart a pomegranate.

You're funny Bethany... My brother showed me how to cut a pineapple.. I think you cut off the top, then slice it down the middle, then wedges, then a sharp knife to cut the skin off? I don't know, I bet there is a diagram online somewhere... as for the onion... where's your handy dandy onion chopper?

Usually "Handy-Dandy Onion Chopper" is synonymous with "husband".
At least it is at our house.

Bethany,

Here's a suggestion:

1. Cut off the top.
2. Slice off the skin.
3. Core out the center with an apple corer.
4. Cut in desired slices and wedges.

For the onion, a Pampered Chef chopper works well or as Mike says, your husband.
