Ask your Dad...

I am sure this is not the first time I will tell the boys to ask their dad if they want to know an answer to a particular question.

Parker was getting out of the bath last night and I was drying him off. He looked at himself and said, "Mom, this is my belly button (and pointed), and this is my tummy (and pointed)"...and then he pointed to the upper region of his chest and said,"but what are these called mommy?"

I had no idea how to answer. Are they boobs (or moobs-man boobs) are they mipples...? Do I want my 3 year old knowing the word "nipple"? I've never thought about it before. So, I answered the best way I knew how..."I don't know, we'll ask daddy when he gets home."

Sure enough, this morning when Parker woke up he asked his dad. Erik could hardly keep a straight face, but explained that girls and boys have some parts that are the same and some different parts to their bodies. Parker said, "Oh, my mommy have those? Do my pop pop have those? Do my mimi have those?"

Oh dear...if I am this uncomfortable talking about this with a 3 1/2 year old, can you imagine tackling the more embarrassing issues adolescence entails? I'm glad they are boys, and I'm glad I can always say, "Ask your dad."

PS...Erik is probably not going to be thrilled that I wrote a blog about this, but I think it will be good black mail material for when the boys get older!

You gave me the best advice ever! now I'll just say "ask your dad" whenever this comes up.
