This summer we are going to do a book club for the mom's of our students at the CREW. I chose "When I Lay My Isaac Down" by Carol Kent. Her 25 year old son was charged with murder, and this book is about her journey. She learned how to "have an unshakable faith in unthinkable circumstances."
Faith. Do I have it? I know I want it. It's not found in knowledge. It's not found in keeping commandments. It's not found in intellectual enlightenment.
"No one I know has been exempt from "faith-tests". Whether these tests feel brutally incomprehensible, like Abraham's, or are simply 'par for the course' of life as a follower of God, they seem to have one thing in common: letting go of control."
"God wants to know if we are willing to give up what we love to Him who loves us more"
.
A lack of surrender indicates a lack of faith. A heart that is abundantly anxious and angry indicates a lack of faith.
When we lay our "Isaac" down, the object, person, or ideal that we cherish the most, we exhibit a heart that is full of faith in a God that loves us more than we could ever love our Isaac.
Thank you to Carol Kent, for her challenging book and though provoking teachings.

This is such a great book. I love where it talks about Strecher Bearers (sp). Without those types of people in my life as I was going through my marriage problems, I don't think I could have made it. It helps me to want to be that type of person when others are going through difficult circumstances. That book has so many life lessons in it not just about having faith, but about how to BE a true Christian to others around you! Ugh...I wish I could do that study with you. It's awesome!
I wish our library had more books! I need to start reading some of these!
Very good book!!!
