My paraphrase from 1 John 1 and 2

If we claim to know God yet walk like we still live in darkness, then we are liars.

If we walk in the light with Jesus, than we connect to each other better. The blood of Jesus purifies us from all sin; all children of God have that in common.

If anyone obeys God's word, God is truly alive in him.

This is how we know we are Christians: Whoever claims to have Jesus in their life must walk as Jesus did.

If you call yourself a Christian and hate another Christian, you are still in darkness.

Do not love anything in the world, because then Jesus cannot live in me.

But the one who does the will of God lives forever.

Make sure that what you heard when you were young remains in you. If it does, you will stay with God and have eternal life.

And now, continue in Jesus. Don't give up, don't give in, don't compromise.

Words I truly needed to read today.

I think if most Christians read this verse, myself included, we would feel true conviction. It is so easy to talk the talk...but we all are a bit rusty when it comes time to walk the walk. Another humbling verse is Matthew 7:5 You hypocrite! First remove the beam out of your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck out of your brother's eye. In other words, don't be so quick to judge others when you have bigger problems of your own. It is unforntuate yet truthful why people see Christians as hypocrites.
