My mind never stops

I attended a book club on Thursday night, and our discussion covered a variety of topics, and lasted for over two hours. One quick comment was made by a fellow attendee and it is something that I have struggled with for the past few months.

Is being comfortable wrong if you are a Christian? Or, is being content with your life a blessing from God? Her and I both have had the thought of "Well everything in my life seems to be going great....I wonder when the suffering is going to come." It is almost if I am waiting for tragedy, heartache, and disappointment because I've been programmed to believe that the life of believer isn't supposed to be filled with success, happiness, or satisfaction. I've been taught, whether it has been intentional or indirect, that the believer isn't supposed to be comfortable in life. What if my life of contentment is a result of blessings from the hand of God? The more I think about this, the more my head spins.

I am in the process of praying through this issue and formulating my thoughts, but I'd like to hear from others. So, in the words of my favorite radio personalities Kathy and Judy on 720 am, speak your piece.

Bethany - This is an interesting question and something that I struggle with often. Ecclesiastes 5:19 says "Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work-this is a gift from God." I think God wants us to expect great things from him and to be content in whatever circumstance we are in. When we wait on something bad to happen it robs us of the joy God has blessed us with right now. ...worry changes nothing but prayer changes everything...

I don't think He minds...as long as we have that same faith and joy when we are in the valleys of life.

I believe that we all go through seasons of our lives and we are to "be content" where we are during any season. Life is ups and downs. I hate it when people say you must be in God's will when everything is going well. You can be in the eye of the hurricane and still be in the center of God's will. Just as you desire to give your sons the best of everything God desires to do the same for us. But at the same time he knows how much we can handle at any one time. If you gave Parker a $100 dollar bill today he wouldn't be able to handle that amount or appreciate it, but when he's older and has bills and a family he will know what to do with it. "Cast all your cares on Him for He cares for you...."
