Next, I showed them this magazine cover.

Can you blame Jamie Lynn? Look at the generation before her. Ms. Jolie and Ms. Ritche "grace" the cover of this magazine and are both celebrated for being unwed mothers. Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Lopez (both married multiple times) are also celebrated for their "family" values. Inside this magazine are pictures of Halle Berry and Jessica Alba (single moms) who are glorified for their actions. In Hollywood babies are accessories, committed marriages are extinct, and feeling like one has a responsiblity to others is a foreign concept. Unfortunately, our culture mimics this mindset.
I'm am bothered by these mature (well, that's a relative term) women who are featured with their children, but I am sickened at Jamie Lynn who is essentially promoting teenage pregnancy, "Being a mom is the best thing in the world!". Instead of showing the hardships of teenagers having babies , Jamie Lynn is exalted, celebrated, and paid millions to share her "accomplishment".
I encourage our students to see their role in stopping this epidemic of teenage pregnancy. I believe firmly that students have sex primarily to fill emotional voids. Of course I understand that physical desire plays a role, but I'm convinced it is only secondary. I challenged our students to find their contement and satisfaction in the unconditional love of Christ, to speak up when their friends are searching and hurting, and to be bold and proclaim purity in their generation.
