In an interview a ministry wife of 30 years was asked what she would tell the next generation of women following in her footsteps..."that they are pipes, not cups" was her answer.
It's simple, but I've been thinking about the analogy all day. I think this expands the boundaries of just being a pastor's wife, to being a follower of Christ in general. Our purpose isn't just to fill our lives with God's blessing, and then when we're overflowing, we give to others. Our purpose is to be an instrument which God flows through in order to bless those around us...always, not just when we are full.
It's a short, but intriguing thought.
