Knock Knock

I had a Jehovah's Witness knock at my door this morning. I've studied just a little bit on my own about their belief system, so I am prepared. These people, while well-meaning, have a counterfeit faith. Aside from having incorrect theology, their method for salvation is based mostly on works (while they deny this), and their sanctification is never certain. They have a false Jesus, who is soley man, and they have their own interpretation of Scripture.

The first thing I tell them is that I am a Christian who believes in the separate but equal person of the Godhead. They do not believe that Jesus is God, but rather soley the son, and they see the Holy Spirit as more of a positive energy, rather than a person. In Colossians 2:9 it states that "In Christ, the fullness of the Deity dwells." When I quoted this verse to him, and asked him to explain how this supports the fact Jesus isn't God, he was quiet. They also believe that on the third day, Jesus rose only spiritually from the dead, and not physically. I asked him to explain 1 Corinthians 15 where it talks about how the resurrection of Christ is what gives us victory over sin, death, and darkness. A spiritual resurrection wouldn't constitute a glorified body that this passage talks about. Only a spiritual resurrection of Christ means the battle wasn't won, and we know this is not the case.

Secondly, I asked him why the publishers and scholars who wrote the New World Translation (the JW's version of Scripture) do not make themselves publicly known. He said that Christ didn't seek attention, and neither do they. I smiled and said, "That is very humble of them, but I suspect that it is because they do not have the credentials or education to qualify themselves as legitimate translators of the original Greek and Hebrew." My mom always said, "those who have nothing to hide, hide nothing."

Finally, I closed with thanking him for his time, and I said, "I am blessed to know the resurrected Jesus, who is fully God and fully man, and who has forgiven me of my sin. My faith, and not my works, is what justifies me as His child. I pray that you will know and find that same freedom." I invited him to come back when my husband was home (only because he was a man and I didn't want to have him in while I was alone), and we'd be delighted to discuss our relationship with Jesus.

He politely declined, and said "Well, we come out twice a year, maybe we'll see you then."

I hope so.

You are also lucky, because they come by more than 2 times a year around these parts! haha When I am home by myself I just don't answer..only for the post man! lol But if Chris is home he goes outside and talks with them.

Good job for knowing your Bible and proving to them they are wrong even if they say they don't agree. I am sure they went home THINKING! wow that lady is right! GREAT JOB!!!

Well I think it is safe to say that man got served! Ya know instead of just not answering the door when they come-a-knocking (this is what I do) you faced them head. You left that man with a lot of questions that he is now left to answer.

Great Job Bethany... When we first moved we had a regular visitor... I tried to talk to her and did not have the right responses... I think she felt encouraged and kept coming back. So my neighbor lent me a book something like "how to witness to a jehova's witness" It's a series they have one for mormons and catholics etc.... When I got a better handle on her beliefs and how to talk to her about mine she stopped coming. Who knows?
