Kashi is Krazy!!!

I went grocery shopping for my sister and her husband last week, so that when they came home from the hospital with the baby, they'd have a full fridge. She gave me a list, and I went on my way.

Here are just a few of the items Sharon requested...

1)Kashi whole wheat blueberry waffles with added fiber

2)Kashi granola bars with added fiber

3)Turkey Sausage (YUCK)

4)Arnold's All Natural Whole Wheat Bread with...you guessed it...added fiber.

5)Kashi Mediteranian Pizza..a good source of fiber.

6)Alexia's All Natural Rosemary Frozen Potatoes

7)Rice Cakes

8)Whole Wheat Pasta (fiber, fiber, and more fiber)

First of all, why is it so expensive to eat healthy? All of these items cost at least 50% more than their regular counterpart. If these foods are truly what is best for you, due to the absence of certain ingredients, why am I paying more money for food where substances have been subtracted? I'm convinced this rise in the consumption of organic and "whole" food is a farce. How has the human race survived all these centuries without Kashi?

After reviewing the list with my sister and her husband, I said, "Judging by the amount of fiber on this grocery list, the two of you must poop more than anyone I know." They laughed, but I was serious! All that fiber earns you, is a few hours on the throne.

Whoever owns Kashi is rich, smart, and probably very regular.

Please enlighten me. What is this fascination with Kashi?

P.S. The picture of the cereal looks too similar to the food my parents feed their black lab. They smell the same too.

Kashi "was" just a regular local brand out of California...La Jolla, I think.
Now they are the new Lean Cuisine.
I agree with you, I think that it is kinda ridiculous that we have been "missing" all these nutrients all these years.
We have had the low-fat and low carb crazees...I guess it is time for the high fiber craze! LOL Why not just drink a glass of Metamucil? Probably a lot cheaper!

How funny. I wish I did eat more fiber. I commend them for eating so well.

I agree with all that fiber they must be on the throne at least 3 times a day! haha

Have a great day!

Okay, I know there has to be a Trader Joe's somewhere around you because then the prices would be way low! You can eat organic and spend less money at Trader Joes.... Kashi is even sold there too. (but I think you are right, it is like dog food.. no thanks!) Now that I just sounded like an infomercial.... just a suggestion... Trader Joes=organic food=cheap! Hope your sister is doing well!

I second Kristy's comment. I buy all of my healthy organic food at Trader Joe's. It is my favorite store to grocery shop at. I tried one bowl of the Kashi cereal and then threw the box away! YUK!

You are a sweet sister for grocery shopping for Sharon and Jason! How are they doing?
