Christian Radio. It seems that when you grow up in the church and you are saturated with Christian culture, it is easy to develop a critical outlook on things. I have not listened to Christian radio in years because I always felt as if it was a little cheesey, to be honest. I've spent the last few years listening to talk radio where sports, news, and politics are discussed, and then I'd listen to specific Christian music that I hand picked. But, lately I've missed the music and having a radio station that I can rely on for encouragement.
Within the last few months I've tuned into our local Christian radio station. I like when they feature artists that are different and deep, but I don't enjoy when they play music that imitates the secular realm, but just change the lyrics. I have discovered some artists and music that truthfully minister to me. I also have discovered that some music is literally noise that grates on my ear drums. I appreciate the fact that our particular Christian radio station seems to be reaching young children (which is important), and I enjoy the Sunday morning message from a local pastor, but I'm a little weary of some of the music that pumps through my speakers.
Honestly, the one aspect of our local station that drives me bonkers is a specific DJ (who shall remain nameless). The adjectives that he/she uses to describe anything, are limited to "awesome" and "totally awesome". I purposefully do not listen when he/she is hosting. I once counted the "awesomes" in a given session, and lost count at 16.
All in all, I will continue to listen because it has been an enlightening experience, and I have really found some music that I like, and did not know about before. My new favorites include, Jimmy Needham, The Afters, Sanctus Reel, and even the cliche' Matthew West.
I'm random, and I have no "ulterior motive" for this post.

i love, love, love jimmy needham no matter what aldo and erik say.
after all, on the glorious bus ride home, they played ridiculous things like keith green.
I agree with you Sam about Mr. Needham. But, I must part ways with you on Keith Green. I grew up listening to him because of my parents, and we actually owned his records. He was only in the music industry for a few short years before he died in a plane crash. More than his music, I'm always challenged by hearing him talk on his records in between the songs...he's convicting and inspiring...
Now, if we want to talk about Ray Boltz, that is another story!
I love Christian radio. Growing up in the boonies, we never had it. I love Rock/Roll type music. Upbeat. Fast paced. One of the groups that I have been listening to pretty non-stop is Casting Crowns. Lately, however, I have been listening to another Christian Radio that has been expanding my tastes a bit.
I can't listen to our Christian radio station out here in Seattle b/c every time I turn it on it is either Newsboys or old school DC Talk (colored People). Don't get me wrong these songs bring fun flashback's to my days in high school, but after hearing these songs EVERY TIME I TURN ON THE RADIO it would be nice to hear some more up to date Christian music. Oh, and no joke last night when I was driving home from the grocery store I heard Michael W Smith's song "Go West Young Man"! I think I was in junior high when that song came out!! Crazy!
I think I need to pursue a career as a Christian D.J.- Ha! =)
SHINE is the best local station. What local christian stations do you listen to?
I never listen to Christian radio b/c it's usually so outdated, but I have found that most stations pick a weekend night and play more "youthy" music and updated bands, but yeah Christian radio needs some help!
If they played Carmen Radically Saved, I would listen to christian radio or Michael W. Smith Go West Young Man.
