Last night I had to speak in youth because Erik was still too sick to leave the house. I spoke about 1 Corinthians 4:16. Paul talks about how our momentary troubles will be worth it because of the eternal glory that awaits us at the end of the narrow path. In his words, "the eternal glory that far out weighs" (the trials) .In conclusion, we played Rita Springer's It's Gonna Be Worth It. That song, no matter how many times I hear it, always inspires me and challenges me to keep on keeping on.
If we were all to be transparent, sometimes I feel that in my walk with Christ I lose more than I gain. I've lost friends, I've lost position, I've lost the possibility of fortune, I've lost comfort....and when circumstances look dim, I ask, "Is this really worth it?". I think the reason why I love reading the epistles, is because Paul is so incredibly honest in how he communicates. He says, I've been beaten, shipwrecked, forsaken, stoned, hungry, chased by friends...all because I follow Christ. But, I know that what awaits for me is eternity with my savior, so I press on.
I know there are students now who are seriously considering laying down their walking stick, and leaving the narrow path that Matthew talks about. The path has become too steep, rocky, and difficult. My prayer is that in these moments of questioning the worthiness of the journey, they'd be encouraged and know that the trek is worth it.

Amen sista! Thats good stuff. We have been talking to our kids also about worth. Not giving up, but also their self worth in Christ.

I don't know how many times I've asked myself if it's worth it!! When I ask myself that question I sometimes think of Paul's letter to the church of Philippi while he was in prision. Specifically this part:
What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ. Philippians 3:8
All the hardships, and losses we take as Christ follower are worth it if we have the honor of knowing Christ Jesus as our Lord!!

I love Rita...not back to Rita with the big old butt, but Rita Springer! I have listend to a few of her recent songs, like a year ago or so album...good stuff too, but I like her older albums better...very worshipful!
