I am leaving mid morning to attend a cousin's wedding in Rockford. The church is roughly 2 1/2 hours from my house. Because of the car trip, and the requirement for children to be quiet at an event like this, I decided to leave Parker and Kent at home. I was explaining to Parker that mommy was going to a wedding today, and that Daddy would play with him when he got off of work.

He burrowed his brow, pouted his little lips, and put his hands to his face, "You marry anoder guy?" The look on his face was one of complete fear, and his voice quivered as he asked the question.

I grabbed him, held him, and said, "No! I will always be married to Daddy and we will always be a family! I am going to watch my friend marry a nice man."

He breathed a sigh of relief and instinctively kissed my cheek.

It is amazing to me that at such a young age so much of his security is based upon our family unit. The thought of that relationship being jeopardized, scared him enough to bring tears. This incidents proves the necessity of making a toddler feel safe and secure in his family environment.

I would just cry if I saw Parker do that or get worried like that. He is so sensitive, some girl will like that someday!

Wow! I can't believe he was so afraid! But, you're right, it is so important even at an early age!
