I had the most wonderful day yesterday. My aunt from Alabama came to visit and took me and the boys to lunch. After that we went to a nursery and she walked me through gardening 101. I learned what plants go together, how to arrange them in a planter, how to care for them..and all the other basics. I bought $40 worth of flowers for the front and back yard (I justified it by telling Erik that they were my mother's day gift). Auntie Re bought a beautiful planter for me too. Now, the challenge is to keep up with them. I have to remember to water them every day and to fertilize them as well. I have to remember to rotate the plants so that they get an even amount of sun light. Planting flowers made me feel so grown up and matronly. I remember my mom and dad planting flowers around mother's day every year. I think I've officially joined the mother's club. I drive a van, I shop at Target, I go to bed by 9 pm, and now I plant flowers.
In the afternoon, the boys and I walked to the fields down the block and watched a 12 year old boys baseball game. Parker loved it, and Kent was happy sitting in his stroller taking in the surroundings. I loved having Parker sit in my lap on the bleachers as I explained each play to him. He couldn't understand that even though the boy hit a ball, he didn't run to 1st base. I think he's too young to comprehend "foul balls". I forgot how much I miss playing softball. I miss the dirt, the sunflower seeds, the adrenaline, the strategy, the anticipation of having the next ball hit in your direction. I cannot wait until Parker's first T-ball game. I'm going to be a stage mom for sure.
